Postcard From Breckenridge, CO

Like most travelers, the postcards we send don't usually get delivered until after we get back home. Every minute of my Artist in Residence stay at the Tin Shop in the resort town of Breckenridge, Colorado was action-packed. SCTV Channel 10 dropped by to capture the goings on and you can watch it here.

A steady stream of visitors from across the U.S. were drawn in by the felted banners swinging from the tall trees surrounding the historic shop. It's been turned in to a wonderful year-round working studio for artists. In between explaining felt-making and showing my Network Tapestry, I worked on incorporating wire armatures into my hand-dyed felt, creating a nice structure for 3-dimensional vessels.

And, just for fun, I conducted a workshop for 8 children, teaching them how to make layered and multi-colored felted wool balls. Everyone had a lot of fun playing in the soapy warm water! When we cut them open, these wool "Geodes" revealed lots of surprises.

All in all, I had a great time on my summer getaway. It's great to be back home and in the studio again. Until next time, best wishes - PJ

Settling In At The Tin Shop - Now through July 16th

The Fourth of July holiday is behind us now and what a weekend it was in Breckenridge! I arrived Thursday and found my studio and upstairs apartment at the Tin Shop waiting for me. Unpacking and hanging up my Network Tapestry collection took awhile but it looks great.

In between, I have had a steady stream of visitors from all over. The Summit Daily News sent a photographer and a great story with the details appeared in print and on-line on July 3rd. jazz89 KUVO-FM also aired an interview with me. Several parents have already signed up their kids for my free "Geode" felt making workshop.

In between, I'm starting to work on my "armatures" project, incorporating metal wire frames into 3-dimensional felted sculptures. Oh, and I got a chance to get up close and visit with the famous Budweiser Clydesdale Horse Team, in town for fabulous 4th of July parade that went right by my windows. I learned they each drink 30 gallons of water a day. Imagine how much they must eat!
With all the holiday crowds thinning out, now's the perfect time to come on up and have a chance to see my work and learn about contemporary felt making. Open Studio hours are 11AM-7PM Wednesday-Sunday, through the 16th. I look forward to welcoming you - a block off of Main Street at Washington - just look for the colorful felted lace banners swinging from the trees! - PJ
