I'm off to the "Kingdom of Breckenridge", Colorado July 2nd-16th as a Guest Artist at the Historic Tin Shop! My show “Color in Motion”, features hand-dyed and felted original abstract wall hangings. I'll be talking about it with Hilary De Polo and host, Victor Cooper during "Drive-Time Jazz", Friday afternoon, July 3rd on jazz89 KUVO at 89.3FM in Denver and 89.7FM in Breckenridge. Tune in or listen at kuvo.org for more.
The best part about being a Guest Artist in Residence is that there's the opportunity to work on some new ideas for integrating metal "armatures" into my felt, to make large sculptural pieces. Open Studio Hours are Wednesdays through Sundays, 11:00 pm - 7:00 PM and I look forward to discussing this and my Network Tapestry work with visitors.
On Thursday, July 9th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm (note time chnage), I am conducting a free “Geode” workshop for children, ages 5-8. The kids will use soap and warm water to create solid felt balls, with different colors of wool roving, arranged in layers. I'll help them cut open these “precious stones”, revealing a treasure they can take home.
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Tin Shop and again on Saturday, July 11th, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm as part of Second Saturdays in the Arts District, there will be a public reception welcoming me to town.
Known in winter for fabulous skiing, the International Snow Sculpting Competition and Ullr Festival, Breckenridge is also a year-round home for the Arts. The National Repertory Orchestra season is already underway and the town celebrates a major milestone this summer with the Breck 150 anniversary.
It's a great time to come up to Breckenridge for some fresh cool air and a chance to take in the arts. If you'd like more information about my work and two-week residency at the Tin Shop, please click here or call me at 719.539.6382

SOFA WEST: SANTA FE
Sculpture Objects & Functional Art Fairs (SOFA) is Chicago's premier exposition, bridging fine art, contemporary decorative art and design. June 11-14, 2009 SOFA heads west to Santa Fe, New Mexico. At SOFA WEST: SANTA FE, 35 International dealers will showcase the latest in 3-dimensional, contemporary artworks.
Educational offerings, area gallery openings and special events are also highlighted. At 1 pm on Friday, June 12 join Lotus Stack, curator emeritus of textiles, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, for a walking tour of select galleries showcasing woven works and mixed media.
For a contemporary fiber artist like me, SOFA is a real mecca, and this week, it's right in my own backyard - hope to see you there! - PJ
