White Wool Roving: the Base for Color Experimentation

Color Your World

Science often breaks down color into a “recipe” containing the essential elements of cyan, magenta, yellow and black; however, the images colors evoke are much more than the sum of these parts. Color stirs highly personal emotions and associations: from passion to peacefulness and nostalgia, as well as links to Nature’s elements of earth, light, shadow and water.

Network TapestryTM start out with an absence of color – pure white wool roving. With an eye towards the finished piece, I brew batches of dyes, turning strands of roving into many hues. Once the roving is laid out and the felting begins, the fibers interlock uniquely, resulting in both pure and blended shades.

My world is full of experimentation and color. I hope this use of color in both familiar and new ways open up a dialogue that inspires you as well.
